Women's Waxing...
Waxing removes hair from the root, so it takes a longer time for hair to grow again- anywhere from 3-6 weeks, depending on the individual speed of hair growth. This means your hair free, smooth skin lasts much longer and you can go for that holiday on the beach and bask in the glory of your enviably smooth and glowing skin without having to worry about body hair showing up in the meantime.
In contrast to other methods of hair removal like hair-removing creams and shaving, waxing does not cause cuts, pigmentation, or badly smelling skin. No harsh chemicals are present in wax, so, the skin is saved from their damaging effect.
The hair that grows after waxing is of a finer and softer variety, not rough and hard as after shaving. And the really good thing is - waxing does not cause an ugly stubble as seen in just a day after shaving.
Waxing leaves the skin soft, smooth and rejuvenated because it also removes a layer of dead cells from the surface of the skin, and thus, indirectly serves the function of exfoliating the skin as well.
After repeated sessions of waxing, you will notice a much sparser hair growth, and hair growth may even stop eventually. In contrast, shaving stimulates hair growth, because it removes hair at the surface only, not at the root.
At Dare to be Bare we take all precautions to minimize cross contamination and infection and have never had any complaints in the 10 years we have been operating. We comply with council regulations, we use antibacterial hand gel, a new pair of gloves for each client, client are not ask to lie on vinyl or plastic sheets we cover our bed with fresh towels, then use soft paper bed towel under a client which is then replaced.
What should I do to prepare for my bikini wax?
Personal hygiene is a must. Taking a shower the day of your waxing is highly encouraged with particular attention paid to the area in question including the area around the anus. Personal hygiene will make the therapist job a bit easier too.
Pubic hair that is clipped down to a quarter inch high is the easiest to remove and that will cause less discomfort. We recommend that you use clippers to achieve this as it is very hard to get an even trim with scissors. Don't shave it down to nothing because at the shorter lengths the hair is very stiff and difficult to remove.
If you are especially sensitive to pain, you can take a pain reliever 1/2 hour prior to your waxing.
The specific procedure requires you to either remove your underwear, or if possible squeeze it down so that it is only a thin vertical strip, if you feel more comfortable wearing you underwear we would suggest that you wear an old pair that you only use for waxing as they may get wax on them, we can provide disposable G Stings one size fits all if required. As the waxing also includes the area around the buttocks, you'll want to be prepared to roll over so our female therapist can have access to this hair as well, at Dare to be Bare we never ask a client to get on all fours it’s just not necessary . Our therapist’s have a great sense of humour and most clients experience a rather entertaining time in the waxing room.
The actual waxing includes the spreading of a warm wax on to the area. A strip of soft man made material is then pressed down on to that wax and quickly removed taking with the material the wax and the hair that was stuck to the wax. This process is repeated until all the hair is gone. Any individual hairs that are left may be removed by plucking them out with tweezers.
The first time tends to give rise to a bit more discomfort than subsequent waxing appointments. At Dare to be Bare we pride ourselves on our therapist’s quick and gentle techniques. During subsequent appointments you'll discover that there is even less discomfort during the waxing.
It is normal for some clients who have strong hair to experience a spot of blood where the hair has been removed from the follicle, but you should not experience bleeding, bruising and blistering, this would be due to incorrect waxing technique.
After waxing most clients have some redness and sensitivity which will generally go away in a few hours.
This is dependent on your hair grow, but generally speaking the optimum period to re-wax is every four to six weeks as you have a third of the hair that you did with your first wax, so less hair means less discomfort.
What's the difference between a bikini G Wax and Brazilian ?
Bikini – the bikini wax removes the hair from the side and top of the standard female underwear.
G. Wax – this wax removes hair from the sides and top of the standard G String, in generally it takes more hair off the sides than a standard bikini leaving a strip then we removing hair from the top of the pubic bone just under where your g string would sit, waxing down through the legs up to the crease in your groin area at the base of the labia, but not taking it off the labia, then following through to the butt cheeks and tailbone if required.
Full Brazilian – removes all hair from the pubic bone, labia through to the tailbone
Brazilan with landing strip – this wax is the same as a Brazilian except a strip of hair is left on the top of the pubic bone, this strip may be of your choosing it can be wide, narrow, square, or a triangle it commonly known as a modesty strip
Regardless of what we call the style, our goal is to simply provide you with as much or as little hair removal as you would like. While working with the Dare to be Bare wax therapist, you can discuss exactly how much hair you would like removed.
Hygiene and sensitivity is the key issue here, firstly some client do feel more sensitive during menstruation, secondly as long as you use a tampon, we have no problems with you coming in if you have your period, if you feel comfortable then it’s ok with us, our only problem is that we don’t get the string court up in the wax or we both have a problem, but it’s never happened in all the years we have being waxing so don’t stress.
At Dare to be Bare we understand that some client have to come straight from work and are unable to shower, so we can offer you baby wipes if you feel that you would like to freshen up before a wax.
Yes you can wax during pregnancy, we have many clients who get wax through to their due date, and in particular if they know they are going to have a caesarean. If you are concerned about waxing during pregnancy then consult with our doctor
Women's tolerance to pain may vary at different points in their menstrual cycle. Women may experience greater sensitivity to pain during the week before menstruation. For this reason, many experienced wax therapist recommend that women schedule waxing appointments for the week after menstruation, when pain tolerance is generally at its highest.
